In Japan, a country whose music scene is dominated by boy and girl groups whose producers churn out hit after hit like a factory, Kenshin Yonezu is somewhat of a rare breed. Born out of the Internet, Yonezu got his start uploading tracks to Japanese online video-sharing site Nico Nico Douga using his pseudonym Hachi (ハチ).

His single “Lemon” was released in March of 2018 and was the soundtrack for the TV series “unnatural”

Now at age 27 he’s signed to major record label Sony Music and his credits not only include singer and songwriter but often also mixer, choreographer, illustrator and videographer. There should be some rule that says one person can never be that talented but unfortunately that’s not the case with Yonezu, who even does a lot of his own album cover art.

If there’s anyone who seems willing and able to usher mainstream J-pop into the next generation, it’s Yonezu.

his latest sing;e “Flamingo” was released in October of 2018
