March 6, 2020 / Johnny / Comments Off on Wild and Mythical New Bricolage Paintings by Yusuke Asai
Born in Tokyo in 1981, the artist Yusuke Asai (previously) continues to travel the world, creating wild and unrestrained art with whatever canvas and materials are available to him locally: soil, water, dust, flour, tape, and pens.
Asai spent much of 2019 travelling around Japan and the Eurasian continent, discovering the wild, meeting people and creating artwork. Toward the end of last year he accompanied a deer hunter whom he had befriended on a hunting expedition on the Oshika Peninsula. As a tribute to the deer, he collected some of the wild animal’s blood and incorporated it into his paintings as a new material.
For the first time in 4 years Yusuke Asai will be having a solo exhibition, taking place in Tokyo at the art gallery Anomaly. “Gimme Something/To Eat” will be on display from March 7 – April 4, 2020.
