Cokeco are a Fukuoka-based design duo who create leather accessories inspired by the natural curiosities of the world around them. Lately, their attention has been focused on sealife: specifically, our multi-limbed mollusc friends whose tentacles provide endless inspiration for bags, keychains and other everyday accessories.
The Octopus Bag (as seen above) is an ingenious design that comes with a shoulder strap. But the tentacles also have magnets in them, allowing the octopus to to clip on to other bags as if it’s alive. There are also multiple storage pouches hidden in the head and tentacles.
The tentacle keychain (as seen below) clips on to bags and can be used to carry keys or other small items. It also had a magnet embedded within and can be styled to look like it’s carrying something.
The world is so vast that a single person could never see it all, says Cokeco, explaining their philosophy. And yet we go about our daily lives living out the banal platitudes of existence. But in each stone, blade of grass or leaf hides endless wonders and amazement if we only take the time to observe.
Comprised of partners Chie and Tatsuki Tanaka, Cokeco (pronounced Ko-keh-ko and taken from the sound a rooster makes) will be having an exhibition in Tokyo later this month from 9/20 – 9/23/2024 at this shop and gallery in Kichijoji. If course if you’re in Fukuoka you can always stop by their shop as well, or visit them online.
