If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of touristy Kyoto, head to this newly opened oasis of books and coffee. Located slightly north of central Kyoto is the Donkou Kissa Fang, a serene cafe and private book collection built inside immaculately crafted townhouse and garden.

Donkou means ‘slow thinking’ in Japanese, and is the name of the private book collection of Yoshitaka Haba, a book director who has planned and curated the selection of books for libraries and shops across Japan.
Take the slow-moving Eizan Railway to Miyakehachiman Station where you’ll walk through the backstreets of Kyoto before arriving at this shrine dedicated to books and coffee. But you’ll want to reserve your spot online before you go. The care takes only 6 reservations at a time, each for 90-min increments.
