On Saturday, July 18, 2020 join a free online event with two experts to discuss Japan’s history of bath culture, art of public bath houses, science of Japanese bathing habits, and how to try at home.

From natural hot springs (onsen) to public bath houses (sento), bathing in piping hot water (yu) is firmly embedded in Japanese culture and daily life. So why do Japanese people love taking baths?

The beautiful bath houses are an art unto themselves, and have historically provided an inviting space for communities around the country. Plus, research shows that bathing reduces anxiety, improves quality of sleep, and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.

This Saturday (July 18, 2020) join an online event with special guest speakers Stéphanie Crohin, Author and Sento Ambassador, and Hayasaka Shinya MD PhD, Bath & Hot Spring Medical Researcher, as they discuss Japan’s long history of bath culture, the art of public bath houses, the science behind Japanese bathing habits, and how everyone can try these practices in the comfort of their own home. Presentations will be followed by a live Q&A.

This event is free via YouTube Live @Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership, New York. You can register for free here to receive an event reminder and link to the live stream.
