The word minamo comes the ancient reading of 水面, meaning water surface in Japanese. And inspired by the the gentle but complex curves of water ripples, a Japanese designer has created a series of small tableware the adds a touch of whimsy to any setting.

Minamo is a metal plate that captures the glittering surface of water using a combination of craftsmanship and technology. Although it’s considered highly difficult to replicate the complex yet gentle curves, a team of designers led by Esai Shibagaki managed to pull it off using a combination of computer simulation, digital molds utilizing 3D modeling tools, and metal stamping techniques from a small factory.

It was produced by Trinus, the company behind our Colored Pencils, who help designers bring their ideas to life and then to market. Minamo is available in our shop.
