Nene (left) and Ryugo Ishida of Yurufuwa Gang

If you want something new to listen to this week, try Yurufuwa Gang, a Japanese hip hop duo comprised of Nene and Ryugo Ishida. Dissecting their name gives you a sense of what you’re in for: yurufuwa is a combination of 2 words, yururi (leisurely) and fuwa (light or comforting). Together, Yurufuwa Gang kicks out some joy-inducing tracks that are full of goofy, slacker vibes.

One of their earlier songs is this hypnotic track about MarioKart

What makes Yurufuwa Gang so enjoyable is that they don’t take themselves too seriously, and they don’t pay attention to what others in their industry are doing. Both Nene and Ishida are heavily tattooed but the similarities to their hip hop counterparts end there. Rather than the trials and tribulations of street life, the Yurufuwa duo are more likely to get their influences from gaming, the latest Netflix series that they’ve been binging on or fast food. The result is a mesmerizing and addictive experience that anyone who has felt like they don’t ever want to grow up, can identify with.

Dippin’ Shake, for all the fast-food lovers

For something a little more poppy, this track from SALU featuring Yurufuwa Gang
