Modernica just emailed me about their latest creation, the Alpine Series Bed, hitting showrooms today. On a related note, I think my search for the perfect bed has ended. Designed by Jay Novak (one of the founders of Modernica), the bed uses structural bent laminated wood to achieve its stylish form. And I love that you don’t need a box spring. Me and box springs…we’ve had our differences. Wish I could afford the $2895 price tag!

Yeah, I don’t get along with box springs either. I thought I had the perfect solution with my low, heavy, patina-iron platform bed…until we had a toddler running around with four-inch iron flanges sticking out from under our temper-matress.
Bentwood sounds like a much kinder option for a child-friendly home.

Not sure if it's suited for me. Besides having kids in the house, like Maia pointed out, I'm not sure if it's sturdy enough. We've all seen kids bouncing on the bed, running all over and I don't want them to hit their heads or limbs on the wood. I guess that's why my house looks like it's made out of plush. I even had to buy a new tempurpedic mattress just to make sure there isn't any dust in it when kids jump on the bed.
