MUJI’s new rentable townhouse in Kamogawa

MUJI, everyone’s favorite Japanese lifestyle retailer, has been in the homebuilding business for over 15 years. But in a new initiative they’re calling MUJI Base, the company has begun restorring, renovating and renting countryside ‘kominka‘ townhouses, all stocked with minimalist MUJI merchandise. Their first home is located in Kamogawa, a coastal city in Chiba just an hour and a half drive from central Tokyo.

MUJI BASE KAMOGAWA is located in Kamogawa, Chiba, where bountiful terraced rice paddies and deep mountains meet. The 100-year old home home, which coexists alongside trees, flowers and birds, offers a respite from the hectic city life of Tokyo making it the perfect weekend getaway. It reminds us of the country home from My Neighbor Totoro.

And leave your belongings behind because the home is stocked with MUJI furniture and tableware, all designed to amplify the Kamogawa lifestyle.

A two-night stay (the minimum) costs 55,000 yen (about $380) and the house accommodates up to 5 people. For an additional 2,500 yen a breakfast kit can be prepared for 2-3 people. Dinner kits (4,500 yen) are also available. Here is the official AirBnb listing if you are interested.
