Healthcare workers around the world are putting their lives on the line to fight COVID-19 but their battle continues to be fought uphill as a shortage of medical supplies threatens to disrupt an already overwhelmed system. Bespectacled Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka wanted to do something to help so he created a simple and easy way to make face shields.
“I am grateful to the brave and dedicated healthcare workers for fighting the contagious disease,” says Yoshioka. “I’d like to share my quick and simple face shield idea for emergency situation with shortage of medical supplies.”
Face shields are typically made with multiple parts and would be difficult to create and assemble at home. But Tokujin Yoshioka’s brilliant idea simplifies the design greatly, allowing it to be held in place with ordinary eyewear. It takes only 3 steps to create and can be made with minimal materials. Simply print out the template, place on top of a clear plastic sheet (even a clear plastic binder would work), cut along the guidelines and attach to your glasses.
Yoshioka has made the template available for download here. No fee or permission is required.
