Blue 2 Tokushima is an initiative to connect designers with local manufacturers in Japan’s Tokushima Prefecture with the objective of coming up with new applications for craftsmanship and manufacturing expertise. One result of that initiative are these gorgeous, wooden dumbbells.
The wooden dumbbells were designed by Taku Omura, who teamed up with Ikawa Sculpture Store, a family-owned company that’s been carving mostly religious and traditional decorations since 1932. The dumbbells were hand-carved with the traditional cloud motif, which often appears in Buddhist and Shinto art.
Named after the motif, the “ClouD” dumbbells come in 3 sizes and weigh: 0.5 kg, 1 kg and 2 kg. They’ll be on display at Maison & Objet Paris later this month.
