Designer Satoshi Itasaka (previously) has created Stump Chair, a highly durable, functioning chair made entirely from excess fabric from the fast fashion industry. This excess fabric is typically disposed of at both a financial and environmental cost. But by taking it and pressing it at high pressure, the designer managed achieve both beauty and durability.

“The area of fast fashion has grown rapidly as we have sought to dress faster and cheaper,” says the designer. “However, there are negative aspects.”

Itasaka explains that the concept for the Stump Chair comes from a need to question the products we use: where they come and how they are made. As part of Design Art Tokyo, the Stump Chair will be on display at Kashiyama Daikanyama from 10/27 – 11/3.
