Japan has some of the most bright and colorful candy packaging. Perhaps that’s why illustrator and designer Akihiro Mizuuchi (previously) turned to his students’ sweet tooth as inspiration for a design project.

Students in Mizuuchi’s design class at Renaissance Design Academy picked a candy packaging of their choice and cut out the shapes and colors to recreate whimsical characters. The name of each candy is often incorporated into the character or set, making it easy to recognize which candy packaging was used. Can you name all of them?

Check out some of their creations below and see more over on Mizuuchi’s website.
