Shinji Tsuchimochi is creating 100 views of Tokyo. This is view 95 (of Goldengai, Shinjuku)

Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji are an iconic series of landscape prints created by ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai between 1826 and 1833. Taking inspiration from both the style of ukiyo-e, but also Hokusai’s initiative, Tokyo-based illustrator Shinji Tsuchimochi is creating 100 Views of Tokyo.

It’s been 3 years since Tsuchimochi embarked on his project, which is now coming to an end. During the month of May he completed view 95, which features Shinjuku’s Goldengai.

Once the project is completed Tsuchimochi says he wants to create a book with all the views, which we agree is a great idea! You can follow along on Behance or Facebook as the illustrator approaches the end of his long and arduous journey.
